baader-meinhof.

EMT training: one of the trainers, a lady, mid 50’s, saturated with boomer bliss, power point presents us with the problem of “fixation mistake”.

I.e.: you get an idea in your head of what could be the problem and proceed to only find and/or match symptoms that fit your initial diagnosis, instead of judging symptoms neutrally, objectively, and letting the diagnosis picture be either incomplete or insuperable.

Someone points out this is also called the Baader-Meinhof effect. Angry at not being wisdoms’ only and final receptacle of truth, she responds, in true self-righteous boomer screamy fashion:

“No, this is called the fixation mistake!” Her challenger: “Yes, I agree with you. The Baader-Meinhof effect...where you only see and hear what you want to hear?”

Her: “No. no. no. It’s the fixation mistake”.
